following on from what feels like the previous 512 installments of Ice Age movies comes Ice Age: Collision Course featuring the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary and Queen Latifah.
The film centres around the impending doom of an asteroid about to hit Earth caused by Scrat finding a spaceship, setting off into the galaxy and causing mayhem with his acorn.Meanwhile, back on planet Earth our gang of 3 which is now almost into double figures search for a way to stop the destruction with a bunch of magic magnetic meteor crystals which they hope will save the day..
The film is fine but not great, it appears to be more of a series of animated short sketches stuck together more than a coherent full length movie of 90 minutes.Saying that, there are plenty of laughs in it and the kids that were in attendance did seem to enjoy it,which,to be honest is exactly what you want from this type of film. However,it is plainly obvious that this series has run it’s course and the voice cast were clearly phoning it in and thinking of their paycheck at the end of it.The funniest parts were of course the bits featuring Scrat and his acorn and perhaps more of this and less of Buck the one-eyed weasel may have helped this movie more.
It is enjoyable, the kids will like it on a damp, dreary school holiday day but it’s nothing to write home about and will be forgotten very quickly.
The cow has been milked well and truly dry..
