The Joxer Film Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2..
Written and directed by James Gunn and Starring Chris Pratt,Zoe Saldana,Dave Bautista,Bradley Cooper,Vin Diesel,Michael Rooker,Karen Gillan and Kurt Russell,The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 sees a welcome return of Marvel’s most unlikeliest of galactic heroes..
Set soon after Vol 1,we join the Guardians as they continue to save the galaxy from big,bug-eyed monsters [at a reasonable attached fee] and helping themselves to the booty [Rocket] in the process, which brings them into conflict with their employers who chase them across the galaxy and being rescued by a galactic being named Ego [Kurt Russell] who has been monitoring their progress since Peter Quill opened the Infinity Stone in the first film..Is Ego who he makes out to be or is there something lurking underneath that the Guardians of the Galaxy are unaware of?
As sequels go,this has to rank as one of the finest ever made.It is a tour-de-force of witty one-liners,an enjoyable, innovative storyline and epic space-saga action with Dave Bautista’s Drax character completely stealing the show from everyone around him.He truly does get all the best lines in the film and his comic timing is exceptional!
The CGI is something to be seen to be believed,it truly is out of this worldand the chemistry between ALL the characters shines off the screen like a beacon in the night.
Michael Rooker brings a surprising sympathetic tone to his role as Yondu and gives probably his finest performance on screen and Baby Groot is just simply adorable!
There are some wonderful cameo’s throughout the film, see if you can spot them all when watching and the whole film bounces along with such carefree,Saturday Morning matinee bravado that the 2 hour+ time frame of the film feels like half that amount..
James Gunn’s excellent film direction helps keep the film flowing and the action is wonderfully OTT without descending into total farce as the banter between the characters whips the story into a crashing crescendo of all out fun and enjoyment for all watching it..
Some of the scenes may not be totally suitable for the younger viewer as some of the monsters will probably be a little bit scary for them but overall this film will rank as one of Marvel’s finest moments on screen and one of the best sequels ever made..
A joy to watch from beginning to end and fun for all the family..and the soundtrack is just as wonderful as the first film!
my only gripe?
the cinema chain in my part of the world are not showing this in 3D,they may as well be showing it in Black & White!
A must see! [preferably on the biggest screen and in 3D,take note Merlin Cinema’s!]
Probably the best film I’ve seen this year,so far..!
Joxer Film Rating..
An Awesome Mix
