The SPOILER FREE Joxer Film Review of Avengers: Infinity War
Starring [you ready for this?] Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, Mark Ruffalo, Don Cheadle, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Josh Brolin as Thanos [and breathe], Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of 10 years and 18 movies that has taken the cinematic world by storm over the past decade.
A BRIEF PLOT SUMMARY
Following almost straight on from Thor: Ragnarok, we find the mad Titan Thanos on his galaxy quest to claim the Infinity Stones and rule the universe whilst destroying half of civilisation in the process.
This eventually leads him to Earth where the Time Stone [ with Doctor Strange] and the Mind Stone [in Vision’s head] are located and where Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Iron Man and friends must stop him from completing his mission.
Can they defeat Thanos and save the universe from his tyrannical rule?
Featuring nearly every character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Infinity War starts as it intends to continue. From the action packed pre-opening credit scenes to the post-credits, this film does not let up one bit in the first film ever to be filmed in IMAX.
As action films go, this one will be hard to top. For although there are massive amounts of personalities on screen and scenes from all over the Marvel galaxy, the film still manages to keep it all together and not fall apart at the seams whilst everyone meets everybody else in this full blown epic of a movie.
It is a film that justifies it’s near 3 hours running time for there was no way this could be crammed into a shorter movie. The characters and the plot are given time to develop and interact and no [infinity] stone is left unturned as we weave our way through the magic and mayhem involved.
The CGI is astonishing, the cast bond well, especially the scenes featuring Iron Man, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange. Chris Hemsworth as Thor very nearly steals the film with his interaction with the “space rabbit” and the creative team give plenty of scope for all the characters to shine and not get swallowed up by the sheer scale of the size of the movie.
Josh Brolin as Thanos brings an all round persona to the arch villain and is the Thanos we were hoping he would be from the teasers in previous films.
There is something for everyone in this film. The comedy moments are spot on, the dialogue is excellent and the interactions work with no apparent ego involved. It is everything you expect from a Marvel film.
Be prepared to be stunned and amazed with what will truly become one the biggest films of all time as we end the first 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a biggie and a spectacular success..
The film does exactly what you expect it would do and then some!
it is an EPIC in all senses of the word.
